When visiting Dallas, there are several magnificent attractions to see and activities to explore. Nonetheless, there are five that make the "must see" list for any Dallas trip.
The Dallas Arboretum
The Dallas Arboretum is located just off the shores of White Rock Lake and offers 66 acres of magnificent gardens to explore. Here, you will encounter lovely bushes, trees, and flowers along with peaceful walkways that allow you to discover each of the beautiful coves the arboretum has to offer. You can also take a tour of the DeGolyer House while you are visiting the arboretum, which is a mansion representative of 1940s Spanish style.
Dallas World Aquarium & Zoological Gardens
At the Dallas World Aquarium & Zoological Gardens, you will enjoy a close up and personal view of numerous animals - including 85,000 gallons of saltwater exhibits containing marine animals from all over the world. Animals waiting to be discovered include toucans, monkeys, manatees, crocodiles, sea dragons, otters, giant clams, penguins, sea turtles, and more.
Greenville Avenue
Greenville Avenue can be found northeast of Downtown Dallas and is divided into an upper, lower, and lowest section. Upper Greenville offers the more sophisticated services, while lower Greenville is known for its outdoor dining opportunities and unique shops. In lowest Greenville, you will encounter a more free-spirited atmosphere offering pubs, ethnic restaurants, and antique shops. It's no wonder why both visitors and locals enjoy spending a day on the stretch of Greenville Avenue that runs from Mockingbird Lane to Ross Avenue.
The Texas State Fair
The Texas State Fair runs for three weeks every summer and offers a variety of fun activities. In addition to the arts and crafts, livestock shows, cooking, and auctions, visitors to the fair can take in a concert or two, attend automobile shows, or even watch a collegiate football game. Be sure to take a picture of yourself with Big Tex, a very large cowboy figure, while at the fair and take a ride on the largest Ferris wheel to be found in North America.
Dallas Museum of Art
At the Dallas Museum of Art, you can enjoy a number of permanent and temporary exhibits. Permanent collections include the Wendy & Emery Reves Collection, which is a gathering of works from their mansion, as well as the Ten Treasures exhibit that highlights the museum's key areas of interests. You can also grab a bite to eat at the restaurant and cafe and buy a souvenir or two at the Museum Store.
